Who is your February GB player of the month?

After an amazing opening month to 2018, February has brought about some mixed results from British tennis stars. While the women played impressively to qualify for the Fed Cup World Group II play-offs, their male counterparts fell in the Davis Cup, despite the brave efforts of Cameron Norrie.

With a couple of titles won and some impressive performances across the board, who has been Britain’s player of the month? Let’s take a look at the shortlist:

Gabriella Taylor

February has seen Gabi take a meteoric rise on the ITF tour. After impressing in Launceston to win her third career ITF $25k title, Taylor backed it up by winning her second title in three weeks at the Perth Tennis International 2. Among her impressive run in Australia, Taylor recorded a 12 match winning streak and didn’t drop a set in both of her title runs. Her results in February included notable scalps against Priscilla Hon, Myrtille Georges, Eri Hozumi and Mayo Hibi, and her form has also seen her break into the top 250 and with that a new career high ranking.

Ken and Neal Skupski

What a month it was for the Skupski brothers. The pair won their first ever ATP title as a doubles team after defeating Ben Mclachlan and Hugo Nys in the Open Sud de France in Montpellier. The brothers were unseeded and defeated second seeds Dom Ingot and Marcus Daniell in the opening round, before powering their way through the draw. The title saw Neal break into the doubles top 50 for the first time, and places them both inside the top 20 in the Race to London.

Katy Dunne

After a disappointing start to the year, with early exits in Launceston and Burnie, Katy Dunne finally found some form at the Perth Tennis International 1 by reaching the final of the $25k event. While she couldn’t replicate the exploits of Gabriella Taylor in Launceston, Dunne had some very impressive wins, including toppling top seed Eri Hozumi 6-1 6-1. Impressively, she was able to take the form into the Perth Tennis International 2, defeating 4th seed Miharu Imanishi en route to the Quarter Finals.

Harriet Dart

Before her title in Altenkirchen, Harriet Dart’s best title had come in two $10,000 tournaments in Sharm El Sheikh and Djibouti. However, the Brit came through qualifying to defy the odds and win the ITF $25,000 Ak Ladies Open after beating Karolina Muchova in straight sets in the final. Dart’s month started with a second round defeat to Conny Perrin at the GB Pro Series in Loughborough, but her performances in Germany surprised everyone. She defeated three former top 100 players and dropped just one set en route to the title in what was a very impressive way to end the month.
